You had better start shopping. It was not just a UK effort. I first heard about this technology in Australia ten years ago where it was being touted as reducing the Europe-Sydney route to something more bearable. They have done many successful early prototypes of this design and other scramjets - flying ones.
- ethbro 9y agoThe fact that they can't seem to raise £200M (2013) [1] to build a prototype does seem either troubling about its feasibility OR indicative that something's very wrong with capital markets (or that they're working on traditional military aerospace "we'll get it done in 10 years" pace). On the other hand, I'm sure harnessing explosions to propel heavier than air craft into orbit also seemed insurmountably technically impossible at one point.
