The article is about temporarily disabling fingerprint unlocking and that's what you can achieve with the Android app (does Apple's let you lock the device you're holding in your hands? It might have a sanity check that only allows you to do it with your other devices). The alternative would be to remove manually all your fingerprints, then readd them later.
