- pjmlp 9y agoRDP does.
- Zardoz84 9y agoIts'n the same. With RDP, you are sharing a whole desktop. With X protocol, you can share WINDOWS! You not need to run the whole windows manager/desktop on the remote machine. You can simply launch the X11 application and allow the local client to manage the windows. It's far more efficient and far more responsive (if is compressed and cached like does NX). I remember connecting to my desktop from a computer on the university using NX protocol and running remote apps like was on local. And I don't had a superb internet connexion.
- wbkang 9y agoQuick note, RDP has extensions to forward just the app. It has been able to do that for a while.
- pjmlp 9y agoMy first UNIX was Xenix and I used quite a few variants since then including doing X programming, I know how X works. It is called RemoteApp on Terminal Services and exists since 2008. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753844(WS.10).aspx/dd401668(v=vs.85).aspx https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753844(WS.10)....
- Tsiklon 9y agoI remember when I first did that with a unix machine, immediately my perspective on desktop computing changed. i thought it was witchcraft.
