Isn't the OS just vanilla Android?
- ghostly_s 9y agoApparently so, according to the specs page. I thought the whole thing with this company was that they're developing a competing OS not based on Android?
- distances 9y agoNo, that wasn't their goal, it was stated to be Android from the beginning.
- ghostly_s 9y agoWhat do they need Andy for, then? The press I've seen with him over the past year seemed to be pushing the narrative that he started this company to 'correct the mistakes' of Android...decided that's too much work?
- reitanqild 9y agoSeems they have their own OS for home devices, ambient OS.
- free_everybody 9y agoOh, I thought they had Ambient on their phones too. My mistake. Makes a lot more sense to use Android.
- rsync 9y ago"Isn't the OS just vanilla Android?" Have they discussed whether the phone is designed to be rooted easily ? Like a nexus device, for instance ?
- ktta 9y agoYes. https://twitter.com/essential/status/870381000852996099 https://twitter.com/essential/status/870381000852996099 https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/6eppuc/the_essential_phone_will_have_an_unlockable/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/6eppuc/the_essenti...
