White supremacists came to my city and killed a woman 4 blocks up the street from my house, and the President's message was "there was violence on all sides". Only one side came to Charlottesville and killed someone. Only one side came to Charlottesville and chanted "Blood and Soil" while holding 200 torches in front of the Rotunda.
Trump explicitly refused to acknowledge white supremacists when asked about it. The questions were shouted out, but maybe he shouldn't call it a press conference if he wants to be the only one talking. This idea that it's all media spin is frankly insulting to anyone personally affected by these domestic terrorists.
- graycat 9y agoHe's trying to calm people down and save lives. The newsies want to have Trump provoke a fight. E.g., if Trump denounces some group, then opposing groups will be more motivated to attack with violence. You can't see this? And the dirty dog newsies were trying to get Trump to provoke fights. Then some people would die, and the newsies would get more headlines. Look fellow citizen: We are a free country. You get to believe what you want. We have a free press that gets to ask any provocative, dangerous, accusatory, BS questions they want and write nearly any total BS stories they want. BUT, then, it is up to you, good US citizen, to wise up and filter out the obvious manipulation to get your eyeballs, clicks, and ad revenue. The newsies ask these total, dangerous, BS questions but, then, prove that Trump is a plenty good enough leader not to fall for that trap. Newsies are often trying to get the POTUS to do something really dumb that would hurt the country so that the newsies can have a story, get eyeballs, clicks, and dollars. You just fell for the newsie BS. It's DANGEROUS stuff, stands to get people killed, could cancel a solid democratic election, and seriously hurt our country. It could start a second civil war -- Flake is doing his best at that. Don't fall for that newsie stuff. We are both US citizens: We need to keep the newsies from inciting violence and a civil war and ruining our country.
- heartbreak 9y agoI wish you would stop calling me a sheep. Have a nice day.

- graycat 9y ago> Just today Trump retweeted an image of a train running down a CNN reporter. Where'd you get that? Earlier today to get caught up, I looked at Twitter for the just three people I follow, one of whom is Trump, and saw no such thing. Just now from your post, I looked again and again saw no such thing. There's some lack of communications here somewhere. > The guy is a fascist lunatic who constantly eggs on his base into violence. No facts, references, evidence. Just the same such nonsense we are flooded with daily from the NYT, WaPo, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, NBC. It's all just nonsense. It's just Goebbels style "repeat a lie often enough and people will believe it.". It's a lie. You believed it. You repeated it. For your "fascist", Goebbels was a leading fascist, Nazi, the chief propaganda minister of Nazi Germany. It's ironic that you are using the technique Goebbels used and explained. Goebbels went on to say " ... and eventually you will believe it, too.". As bad as Goebbels was, and as bad as a lot of his propaganda was, it appears that he had some understanding of propaganda. Now what Goebbels understood has been borrowed; apparently it still works. It sucked you in.

- sctb 9y agoYou've been abusing Hacker News with repetitive, political ranting and it has to stop or we'll ban the account.
- graycat 9y agoIf there has been crime in your neighborhood, then your local, state, etc. police, the FBI, DoJ, etc. should handle it. We're awash in law enforcement resources at every level. We should NOT settle the issue by fights in the streets. No political leader should single out one group or person with accusations of violence because: (A) It would tend to further divide the country. (B) It could stimulate opponents to feel that violence was acceptable and to be violent. (C) Even bad people are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. More people could be killed. Then you really WOULD have something to blame Trump for. The newsies try to get politicians to say stupid things. Wisely, Trump declined to do that. Recall that Obama would never say "radical Islamic terrorism", and that is really bad stuff back to the two attacks on the WTC and many attacks since then. You've been talked into believing that a politician SHOULD condemn specific groups and people. In this way, you have been manipulated, fooled, led around by your nose, taken advantage of by newsies who want your eyeballs, clicks, and ad revenue and by some special interest groups who paid money to the newsies to get them to push their propaganda. We are a free country, and you get to have any opinions you want. We have freedom of the press, and they get to say or write nearly anything at all including rivers of total BS, and they take big advantage of it. But as a citizen, you need to filter out the newsie BS. By the way, is there something illegal about torches, free assembly, freedom of speech, petitioning government, "blood and soil"? Actually illegal? Violations of specific, actual, written down laws? Uh, maybe there's something in the Constitution along those lines? What about when BLM shouted "fry'm like bacon"? That was offensive to lots of people, but I can't see that it was illegal. IIRC no one got arrested for shouting such. I don't think they should have been arrested for exercising freedom of speech. Maybe they could be prosecuted for inciting violence, that is, killing police, but I doubt it. Welcome to a free country with freedom of speech, right to petition the government, freedom of the press, and innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Did some newsies get you all sweaty and up on your hind legs about torches? Did they get your attention, eyeballs, clicks, ad revenue? Did they get you to hate Trump? Did you let them manipulate you? Offensive to lots of people? No doubt. Illegal? So, you want a politician to urge violence against people who say things that offend you? You want to let the newsies trick you into such feelings?
