I think admins should intervene as a VERY LAST OPTION, and only delete truly obnoxious posts or distractimg flame wars. If people are insulting or use foul language, sure, but if they express bad ideas, that is an opportunity to show what is wrong with it, and if you keep your tone respectful when responding it is less likely to devolve. Treat people with curtousy even if you think the ideas themselves don't deserve it. Goodwill goes a long way
