I learnt to code with logo, and that was text based. why are we trying to force kids to learn how computers till they are interested in it. They should be learning to ride bikes or climb trees. what we lack in the computing world are games they can make by following a book, eventually they'll want to diverge from what's in the book and make their own stuff, the problem is no games are too complex and a simple game might not hold their attention. Something like Mario Maker is where they probably should start but the extra options to change variables and access scripts later on.
