Ask HN: How does a tech founder recruit an end-to-end designer?
I'm the founder of Noctacam (noctacam.com) and we have one engineer (two soon), other than me. I'm looking to hire a designer part-time, a day a week. This person will be:
+ Designing the UX (the overall flow)
+ Designing the UI (what each screen looks like, do you have a button or a checkbox)
+ Visual design (theming the app, designing an app icon, making a marketing video)
In addition to UX design, he'll be doing product design:
+ Understanding user needs
+ Making sure we're spending time aligned with that, rather than a lot of time on low-value features
+ We're not doing things that are done (better or as well) by existing apps
I'm already doing all the above, but his job will be to fill my blind spots, look at things with a different approach, etc.
How do I evaluate a person's skill when I meet them? What qualifications should I look for?
