To be clear, they didn't actually get paid 'tax free' (unless they have extraordinarily unique circumstances). They just got paid under the table.

- rb808 9y agoNo they were tax free. They weren't US citizens and worked random countries around the world and didnt trigger local residency laws.
- dnh44 9y agoForeign workers in gulf states are normally paid tax free I believe.
- Naritai 9y agoAh, but many countries (including the US) expect their citizens to report your income regardless of source. If you don't, it isn't really tax-free, just 'not reported'
- dnh44 9y agoI believe the US is nearly the only country that taxes its citizens when they are working abroad. China too I think. Certainly it doesn't happen in Europe.
