Maybe. I believe the people who want to colonize mars will appeal to the people with money. This can be done through FUD (Were gonna destroy ourselves, we need a backup, etc) and it can also be through economic incentive (if you colonize mars, you will have all the real estate, there is precious metals/resources, vast opportunity, blah blah blah). My view is that we as a species in general want to explore and expand, and as a result you see us using techniques that will allow us to appeal to the people that can make that happen. EDIT: Spelling
