I don't enjoy the ThinkPad trackpad experience in Linux. When I type my sweaty palms touch it, and it never feels great. My (drastic) solution was to disable the trackpad and fully commit to a keyboard-based workflow (i3wm, tmux, emacs/vim, cvim on Chrome) with occasional usage of the trackpoint.
