Isn't it obvious to most people that sponges (damp, room temperature environment) are bacteria ridden? I use mine to get food off of the dishes, and then rinse

Isn't it obvious to most people that sponges (damp, room temperature environment) are bacteria ridden? I use mine to get food off of the dishes, and then rinse the dishes in running hot water. There's no way I'm expecting the sponge to be bacteria free.
