Addendum: there's also a definition problem with "lecture". Pretty much any educator will tell you that they encourage---actively wish for---questions from and conversations with students during a lecture. Passive lectures without interaction tend to happen mostly in giant lecture theatres. In that case, the problem isn't lectures: it's class size.
