Yeah, "easy" is in the eye of the beholder. For some folks a BGA rework is a piece of cake, for others it means "scrap". Depends on your tools, skills, time, will-power, documentation and tolerance for screw-ups.
Mostly skill.
I've seen techs performing successful BGA replacements on laptop MOBO's in repair stands in Mexico with pathetic equipment.
- smilekzs 9y agoIn Shenzhen, China, techs are supposed to be able to put together an iPhone from scrap parts.
- mschuster91 9y agoHow is that actually possible for a human given all the sub-millimetre-parts like micro smd resistors etc?
- candiodari 9y agoAnswer: plastic cutouts where you position the parts in prepared holes.
- crispyambulance 9y agoIt's not feasible for more than a few components-- we are, of course, talking about repair. You use a microscope, tweezers, a steady hand and accept a high rate of failure. Board repair only makes economic sense in certain markets where the price of electronics is high compared to to disposable income.
