My now 8yo, then 3yo, almost drowned in a hotel pool while I was swimming just a couple of yards away from him. I reached him in seconds, and his reaction was to scale me like a tree, at which point I flung him onto the concrete. He had some scrapes and bruises, but he was alive. I'm not a trained rescue professional, and I didn't know any of this information before you posted it. It's kind of amazing to look back and see how textbook his response was (and how terrifyingly unprepared I was).
