I was the same way until I realized reading fiction before bed helps me sleep better. Turns off the mental to do list. Now I'm at 3/month fiction.
For non-fiction, I need to be stuck on a plane or have a clear weekend morning.
- criddell 9y agoI regret starting the routine of reading before bed. I think I've conditioned myself to sleep anytime I read something more than a couple of paragraphs long.
- TheSpiceIsLife 9y agoFor me (not parent) I only nod off if it's fiction and I'm laying down.
- Poc 9y agoOh man, I always read before going to bed, and now I read a bit after lunch but I must take a break after 20 pages and take a small nap. I never thought before that reading might be a trigger for me to sleep.
- saimiam 9y agoThis is one of those regrets where you aren't losing anything either way - one outcome was that you now have a surefire way of falling asleep. If it had worked, you'd have a surefire way of massaging your brain with good content. Win-win either way, imho.
- closed 9y agoI like reading fiction before bed, but the end result is me forming a makeshift blanket cave for 3 hours while my partner snoozes. :o
