Those microorganisms are the grass and bugs of the ocean, the entire food chain depends on them. What happens when krill eats microorganisms that ate plastic? What happens to the blue whales that eat the krill, or the yellowfin tuna that eat the schooling fish that eat these microorganisms? Remember DDT? This could be so much worse.
