Ask HN: How do you get into supercomputer programming?
Are there specific techniques you need to learn if you want to write code meant to be run on a supercomputer?
Are the optimizations, if they exist, domain specific?
Is supercomputer programming even a field in itself? If I have a research team and we want to run a simulation, can researchers on the team who know how to program just write the code or do you need specialists?
- davelnewton 9y agoDefine "supercomputer". Most these days are just massive parallel systems, so anything regarding high-performance parallel processing would seem appropriate. Some are GPU-based and there are specific techniques, compilers, etc. for that. Both areas are relatively easy to get started with. Regarding the last question, it kind of depends on the team, no?
