I think finding an RSS reader with a UX that fits your needs is a good way to go. I don't like browser based readers. I am currently using the liferea package and it's not bad. I just posted some of the feeds I follow. I've been meaning to start a repo for a list like this for a while, will post another reply when I get something running.
