I think Slack is that kind of product that would never happen outside of the SF. A well know founder with an access to the capital, marketing machinery machinery and critical mass of early adopters. I like Slack and I use it but it's just because others also do. Otherwise I don't find it as amazing shift for the quality of my life or work.
