Flash Ported to iPad
- SlyShy 16y agoHere is the Git repository that is mentioned but not linked to in the article, for anyone interested. http://github.com/comex/frash http://github.com/comex/frash
- pak 16y agoI assume this is a jailbroken iPad, so most iOS users will never know this even exists. There's just too much cool stuff in the jailbroken world that will never make it to the legitimate side...
- zackattack 16y agowhat else?
- sjs 16y agoSBSettings (and the Congruence skin), Grooveshark, Fake carrier, RandomRing, MyWi, Backgrounder. Grooveshark is a big one for me since it's the only streaming service we have in Canada. I could live without any one of them but when I reconsider my jailbreak they all add up to make my phone, well, my phone. I could live without them, but I won't. Patiently waiting for iOS4 to be jailbroken for the 3GS with the new bootrom. Then I'll be able to cross Backgrounder off the list. I don't use it, but there's a call recorder which is pretty neat. And My3G, which allows you trick apps into thinking you're on WiFi when you're on 3G. Oh and screen recorders too. Lots of useful stuff.
- jacquesm 16y agoThat adds up to a pretty hefty indictment of Apples policies.
- sjs 16y agoYes and no. I don't really blame them for disallowing system extensions (Backgrounder, SBSettings, fake carrier, call recorder, etc). They can be useful, and they can also be privacy and security nightmares. I tolerate having to jailbreak because I'd probably end up carrying an iPod around anyway, and from the outside it seems that using cooked ROMs is the norm in the Android community. Maybe the situation on Android is better if you have a well-supported device. Nexus One users got Froyo quickly enough. My next device might run Android. We have a Nexus One at the office that I'm going to carry for a week and see how I like it.
- DTrejo 16y agosjs I don't know if you're into indie music, but my side project http://mixest.com/ http://mixest.com/ should work in safari on the ipad (we're working on an ipad app as well to make it easier to use).
- sjs 16y agoNice job on mixtest, I saw it here on HN the other day. It's pretty cool! I couldn't load it on my iPad or iPhone though. Loads on my notebook right away. I'll bookmark it and try it later.

- benologist 16y agoIf Adobe were smart they'd do a big advertising campaign for it heh.
- electromagnetic 16y agoAdobe should plaster Facebook and flash-gaming cites with "play this game for free on Android - iPad just can't handle the flash" ads. I do love Apple products, but they consistently alienate me. Given that the PSP has seemlessly handled Flash for me (with lower processing power) the iPad just looks like a giant clunky text viewer to me.
- c00p3r 16y agoReally? Is Farmville working on Android?
- shalmanese 16y agoNotice he doesn't actually demonstrate playing any of the games. Mainly because it's not immediately obvious how you could do it on a device with no mouse & keyboard.
- jim-greer 16y agoDefinitely a big issue, but there are quite a few mouse-only Flash games that work well on a touchscreen. We have a mobile version of Kongregate (targeting Android of course): http://m.kongregate.com http://m.kongregate.com
- windsurfer 16y agoThey work great on my N900!
- TeHCrAzY 16y agoHow does one come about to finding the mobile Kongregate? I use your site quite regularly, and never even considered that there would be a mobile site available. (Off Topic: Love the highest rated comments system, and your website in general.)
- pcestrada 16y agoThe iPad can utilize a bluetooth keyboard.
- sjs 16y agoEvery game he loaded up required a keyboard. Oops. Oh and there were Flash ads on Newgrounds. Yay? TED talks, Slideshare, and blip.tv would have made far more compelling demos. Lots of good content trapped in Flash on those sites. Until they move to HTML5 I would use Flash on an iPad for those sites.
- necubi 16y agoI can't speak for the others, but TED has HTML5 support and works great on my iPad.
- risotto 16y agoComedy Central, namely The Daily Show and Colbert Report
- jadedoto 16y agoI'm just wanting hulu. Hulu+ is a joke.
- sjs 16y agoI want Hulu as well. In Canada our only real choices are iTunes and copyright infringement. I'm not paying $3/show for DRM encumbered video on iTunes, so...
- mrmg 16y agoPlease let Flash die.
