I was/am in a similar situation, and I keep the vim graphical cheat sheets (http://www.viemu.com/a_vi_vim_graphical_cheat_sheet_tutorial.html http://www.viemu.com/a_vi_vim_graphical_cheat_sheet_tutorial...) open in a browser tab. Whenever I'm doing something "indirectly" that feels funny (e.g. moving to end of line, then pressing <- to move the cursor back to an open paren) I look it up and find the better way (e.g. "$F("). After a while some things start to sink in
