The problem is that these lines of thinking have real impact. Schools are measuring their success, looking for dollars and changing curriculums around these memes. We should expose kids to a variety of productive fields. Many people I know were pushed down paths they weren't suited for because of nonsense like this. My aunt was caught up in a "We must get women in business!" thing in the 80s, and ended up spending a long time working for the airlines, which was just a job for her. She went to PT for an injury and discovered this field the never existed, went back to school and became a physical therapist at 50. It's a job she loves and is passionate about -- the only thing she liked about her old gig was helping people. That's not to say it's anyone's "fault". But there's a difference between pushing and exposing. We're pushing as a society. I don't want my son to be an engineer because his dad expected him to me.
