American culture has evolved to be "loosely typed", simply because people could not count on others having the same cultural background. The whole "loud, simplistic" American stereotype likely has similar roots. Many (most?) other cultures have not been subjected to the same pressures. Indeed, purity is a common thread throughout most human civilizations.
