Being sat down with a group of new people and told to work, observed, or a novel algorithmic problem against a time limit does not feel like a good way to evaluate people for a job which likely has none of these challenges. Don't get me wrong, I kind of enjoy doing those things personally, but it doesn't seem like a great way to evaluate developers.
