Do CS grads even get taught C any more? I get the feeling that the newest generation is all Java/Python/JS.
Given that cheap embedded systems are so powerful now it makes sense.
- jefft255 9y agoIf they take an Operating Systems course (which, I hope, every CS grads does) then they certainly get taught C. That was the case for me and I only graduated last year. Plus, most CS grads learn C++ which means they can easily get started with C.
- davehtaylor 9y agoI'm a computer engineering major, but have a lot of overlap with the computer science track. We start with Intro to C, then move on to CS1 and CS2 which both deal almost exclusively with C and dig pretty deep into it. We have an OOP class that is Java-based, and an operating system class that is C-based. So yes, C is still taught.
