I am trying to read more but the website went down. My question: I have been dabbling with mbed for quite some time and I would love to use Python for uC. The main problems(at least the perception) are that: you cannot do programming for low power and for real time functions, python will not work. Are these issues addressed by zerynth?
- m_mueller 9y agoCouldn't Cython address real time/low power?
- kartD 9y agoCython is wasteful with lots of memory allocations, which are expensive in embedded systems. Also GC is not a good fit for real time. Something like micro python is far more suited for embedded systems Video:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EvGhPmPPzko https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EvGhPmPPzko
- m_mueller 9y agoThanks, I wasn't aware, I thought Cython would do something along the lines of ARC.
- blattimwind 9y agoCython is not an implementation of Python. Cython is a weird and difficult to use mix of C and Python, where most Pythonic constructs are translated to CPython API calls that are essentially the same API calls that the Python VM would do for similar Python byte code. In any case, CPython has no business on embedded (non-Linux) systems.
- traverseda 9y agoMicropython actually has decent support for real-time operation, according to [1]. This is via proper use of timers and interrupts. I imagine it's something like programming for a real-time operating system. - monocasa 9y agoThe article doesn't really make it's case for Micropython having real-time capabilities. The author seems to be confusing 'real-time' and 'microcontroller'. At a bare minimum you'd need a proper priority scheme.
