IPv6, that mythological creature.
- tzs 9y agoIt's not all that mythological. Here are the IPv6 deployment percentages for major US IPSs: 53% Comcast 64% AT&T 24% Charter 86% Verizon Wireless 85% T-Mobile 41% AT&T Wireless 33% Cox 47% Sprint Wireless 68% Google Fiber Source: http://www.worldipv6launch.org/measurements/ http://www.worldipv6launch.org/measurements/
- Klathmon 9y agoI don't believe those numbers for a goddamn second. Verizon tells me they have IPV6, but after talking with techs for over an hour, and going through 3 people that didn't know what I was talking about and were confused because "we can reach your ONT, so your internet should be working!", I finally got to someone who never set it up in my area despite telling me that it was supported. I don't know what it means to be supported, but it sure as hell doesn't mean I can actually use it.
- ianlevesque 9y agoWell, while we're trading anecdotes, Comcast IPv6 just works out of the box here for me and they even fixed their bufferbloat a few months ago.
- kstrauser 9y agoAs much as I criticized Comcast relentlessly (and switched to Sonic the moment I was able to), their IPv6 rollout was flawless for me.
- syncsynchalt 9y agoYep. Been a happy Comcast v6 customer for many years. Flawless rollout from my end.
- justinsaccount 9y agoVerizon Wireless != Verizon FIOS
- Klathmon 9y agoFair enough, I obviously misread that! But i'm still peeved that they continue to tell me IPV6 is supported, but can't ever get it working, their equipment or mine.
- paxswill 9y agoVerizon (not VZW) have said IPv6 is coming to Fios for about 5 years now. They routers they provide have supported it for about as long as well. Supposedly the hangups include their older video on demand service (and/or set top boxes) not supporting IPv6, and older equipment in some of the earlier deployment areas. Still not a great excuse to not roll it out gradually, but in the meantime I've set up a tunnel with Hurricane Electric and an alternative DNS server to filter out AAAA requests for Netflix (which blocks HE).
- russellbeattie 9y agoInteresting... just tried my AT&T Wireless iPhone, apparently I'm in the 59% that doesn't have IPv6.
- kstrauser 9y agoOne fifth of Google traffic seems non-trivial: https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html
- brohee 9y agobr$ netstat -s [...] ip6: 97835547 total packets received Mythical? It's my laptop, behind a FTTH box configured by my ISP, zero work needed from me.
