Which is also the official policy of the US. No major nation wants to have dependencies on external sources.
> Google, Facebook, Skype - all blocked in China. Microsoft Windows past XP is often a special version for China for which the Chinese government has the source code.[2]
What shocks me is why other nations don't do this too. I am so astounded that europe hasn't developed their own google/facebook/etc via protectionism. They've conceded so much wealth by simply allowing our tech companies to take over european markets. The same goes for india.
With all due respect, facebook and even google as not hard to replicate. The concepts are simple. A handful of CS students could build one up within a few weeks. Instead, europeans have pretty much cede their markets to the US and instead of their CS students creating facebook/google/etc, they work for facebook/google/etc.
We are talking about web companies, not aerospace or automobile companies that require tons of upfront investment.
