It's a balancing act, to be sure. I'm sure all of the issues you raised would be serious impediments to hiring 20-somethings but many of us have only improved our programming prowess with age. I'm in my 40s, I don't care about after work fun. I HATE that I have to commute into the city every day. I would LOVE a 15 minute suburban commute to work. If the pay/benefits are right the only big concern would be stability.
