Deal-making and Implied Sex
- smt88 9y agoFlagged for being repugnant, victim-blaming bullshit. Yeoh says: > "Then I went into my own bedroom but Dave followed me there, and that’s when he first propositioned to sleep with me. I said no. I reminded Dave that he knew my then-boyfriend and that we’d just talked about him earlier that night. > "At this point, I led him to the door and told him he needs to leave. On the way out, he pushed himself onto me to the point where I was backed into a corner, made contact to kiss me, and said something along the lines of 'Just one night, please just this one time.'" It does not matter what happened before this. It wouldn't matter if she promised Dave sex in exchange for business help. It wouldn't matter if they were married. She said no, she told him to leave, and then he physically assaulted her. "No" and "leave" are not confusing. Her reminder that she was in a monogamous relationship was not confusing. Dave was not confused. He was desperate and willing to use his superior physical strength to intimidate and corner her.
- Mz 9y agoFor people inclined to upvote this comment that is in violation of the guidelines (basically "Please don't say you are going to flag something." and "Please leave civil, substantive remarks."), please note that this same person is being ugly to me elsewhere as well ("me" being both the author of this piece and the person who posted it to HN): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14715464 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14715464 And this on the heels of this same person pretending to care in an obnoxious manner a few days ago when I mentioned being suicidal and their follow up remark made it clear that my feelings and welfare were not at all their actual priority: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14681395 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14681395 For the record, I consider this person to be engaging in an ugly campaign of harassment and hounding me, for reasons I cannot fathom.
- smt88 9y agoI've commented on (and ranted against) the content you posted, not you specifically. I make similarly strong statements against any content posted to HN that I find to be harmfully wrong. I haven't made any comments about you personally, as I don't know you. It's not personal, and I follow the "new" section, rather than any user(s) in particular. When you expressed suicidal thoughts, I encouraged you to seek help. Again, not a comment about you as a person.
- foobarbazetc 9y agoIt amazes me how you can tell that a blog post is going to be full of misogyny just by the title. If you think dates are you exchanging dinner or whatever for sex you're doing it very wrong. Why people want to go on the record defending someone who obviously did something wrong by any standard is beyond me.
