Sometimes it seems that even though I'm not at fault for my father's crimes, I am responsible for prominent members of the white male group's crimes. Not to say that my father has actually done anything, but I though we were pretty much over the idea of generational guilt, but we still will gladly attack you for similar reasons because of malicious actors in a group.
You can't say "some cops are racist" or "there are violent black people in the ghetto" without the entire argument devolving into a quagmire about how you were blaming a race(or a profession) and then the accuser quickly shifts back to using broad arguments for those groups anyways. Political attacks at Bernie Sanders were directed at his 'Bernie-bros' and all Trump supporters are racist white males too.
I'm going to have to read more about Hemmingway's comment "those dirty, easy labels", I have my own accusation in my friend group when I think we're falling into reductive arguments, "pretty, little boxes." The world is messy, abstractions can only take it so far.
