Similar to this there is a program I use called Faronics DeepFreeze. It allows you to freeze a drive (the OS drive is what I use it for).
The difference is that it allows writes but any modifications are removed on reboot. I use it to lock down public access machines, users get a network drive they can write to but without being able to modify the OS they can't do much damage.
Not the solution your presenting but it works pretty well.
- colejohnson66 9y agoWhy not just mount / as a ramdisk then? Live CDs do something like that IIRC where the file is read from the CD/USB and any changes are kept in RAM.
- kdbg 9y agoCan you do that with Windows? I also imagine you'd want ram. The public access machines I manage are not exactly powerful.
- NTripleOne 9y agoNot entirely sure why you're getting downvoted - I can only assume it's a kneejerk reaction at the mention of DeepFreeze, stemming from residual bitterness due to all the installations of Halo CE that were removed from school computers thanks to DeepFreeze.
