Red wines contain more tanin than white. Chilling reduces the taste (white wine are drunk chilled to reduce the effect of acidity for example). So if you take a low tanin red wine, a bit acid, and chill it, then yes it can be hard to tell it apart from another white wine from the same region in a blind test. And I wouldn't be surprised even some beer companies sponsored such tests ;) But what does it tell really?
For the red and white wines I usually drink there's no confusion. They're very differentiated, and just smell is enough to tell them apart. It's not even difficult, thy're just so different. So I take all these stories about "red vs. white", as if there were homogeneous categories, with a big chunk of salt.
