I totally agree but would like the study more if it were to be conducted on wine experts instead of winemaking students. Winemaking is more about chemistry than flavor profiles.

Yeah, maybe if they'd picked people who actually drank wine on a regular basis they'd have had different results. You can't tell me with a straight face that white wine and red wine taste the same.

  The study doesn't suggest that red wine and white wine taste the same, but rather that our perception of the test is more heavily influenced by expectation than reality.

  you blind people to it, and you can absolutely cause normal wine enthusiasts to not know which they are drinking. I believe one such demonstration of such was done on John Cleese's wine for the confused.

    Red wines contain more tanin than white. Chilling reduces the taste (white wine are drunk chilled to reduce the effect of acidity for example). So if you take a low tanin red wine, a bit acid, and chill it, then yes it can be hard to tell it apart from another white wine from the same region in a blind test. And I wouldn't be surprised even some beer companies sponsored such tests ;) But what does it tell really? For the red and white wines I usually drink there's no confusion. They're very differentiated, and just smell is enough to tell them apart. It's not even difficult, thy're just so different. So I take all these stories about "red vs. white", as if there were homogeneous categories, with a big chunk of salt.

  I have no idea but a simple blindfolded test should answer that one, you'd think. This guy did a small one and it seems to show that his small group of people can tell the difference mostly.     Rose is basically a sweet white with a little bit of red in it, so it's not surprising they were on the fence for that one. As for the expensive red vs. the cheap red, I've found I actually prefer low-to-midrange wine over some more expensive wines. The higher or lower the price, the more of a crapshoot it seems to be.

      yes i dislike as much wine as I like, I find beer a lot more reliable.
