Been in similar situation for quite a long time. The only thing that worked exceptionally well for me was to found my own company. I became my own boss, hired a few people, did and currently do some great products. Before that, I never tried to change the employer to get a raise. I felt pretty quickly that I can do my own game, so there is no sense in making moves to local extremums. Instead, I just used the time at work to get more experience and expertise.
