"We suggest that one aspect of this adaptation is to encompass metadata within a file abstraction" I thought File Streams would be the ideal place for metadata, except as I read elsewhere, the metadata isn't transfered when you export to the cloud. And didn't Microsoft try and fail at such with WinFS. I guess it's easier to write papers than actually build the thing. No doubt whoever does actually succeed in writing one will have to pay Microsoft a patent license.
