And of course, the Declaration of Independence was issued in 1776. Democracy and freedom in the West is a relatively recent phenomenon. And looking over all of the slavery, colonialism, and wars; it is difficult to assert that freedom and democracy was a thing in the West in the 1800s. Nevermind all of the genocide committed by the West in the 1900s.
