The only thing I'm scared of is Bed Bugs.

  Matresses are probably destroyed or recycled. A lot of states have regulations specifically addressing sale of used matresses. Other furniture can harbor bedbugs of course, as well as other pests such as cockroaches. It's a risk. I'm not sure how it's dealt with.
