If anyone has a suggestion on how to deal with that problem, I'd love to hear about it... I am an Environmental Resource Management major who had plans to become an urban planner, and then life got in the way. Have you attended any local board meetings? Do you know what the policies are? Have you looked up any not-for-profits or think tanks that have an interest in such issues? This is going to tend to be solved by things like zoning laws, good review processes and advocates actively trying to preserve open space, build parks and protect neighborhood character.
