This is not about Google having a monopoly but about Google abusing a dominant position.
And even if it were about monopoly, whether or not you are forced to use a product or a service is not what determines if it constitutes a monopoly.
- asr 9y agoThe concept of "Monopoly" in U.S. antitrust law and the concept of "Dominant position" in EU law are basically the same. Compare the laws here: EU (http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:12008E102:EN:HTML http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:...) US (https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/2 https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/2) And whether or not you are forced to use a product is a large part of what it means to have a monopoly: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switching_barriers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switching_barriers
