What is with developers naming their projects newsomething?
Django had newforms, Java had nio and Guido van Rossum just posted about the multiple inheritence method resolution order (MRO) which had a python 2.2 new-style and python 2.3 new-style. I could probably come up with a huge list of newwhatever projects.
It's such a lazy, uninformative, short-sighted way of naming your work.
- abdulhaq 16y agoNaming things 'new-' something is not IT developer specific. New College, Oxford was founded in 1379.
- po 16y agoThat's true, there's also The New School in NYC. Someone voted me down; I suppose I'm am being a little too aggressive about it but I do think it's a stupid way to name a project. :-) Most of these projects represent a lot of work and a huge revolutionary leap over the "old" projects. It seems like that much work deserves a more fitting name. "There are only two hard things in Computer Science: cache invalidation and naming things." -Phil Karlton
