The gumbo build uses the flag -Wunused-but-set-variable which was added in gcc 4.6. The build script doesn't check for gcc 4.6 though and simply fails.

  GCC 4.6 was released in March 2011. If you're using an older GCC, why?

    Recently fixed a bug causing GCC 4.4something to overflow its stack. They are still out there.
