  The $5 (and up) BTC transaction fees are a result of people stubbornly refusing to do anything about a problem that everyone agrees exists, and has resulted in BTC losing the main trait that orgs like bitcoin.org championed as "replacing all fiat currency". If you think ETH is safe, just wait. While the blockchain was an immensely useful tool, that is about all that cryptocurrencies have to offer in the long run.
