I wish editors handled indentation preferences intelligently. I prefer my indentations to appear 2-columns wide. I want to be able to open my editor, have everything appear as if it is 2-column-tab-indented while I work on it, but have it automatically written back to use the original indentation scheme of the file. Obviously there would be some ambiguous cases, which is acceptable. I use vim with vim-sleuth now. If anybody knows how I can achieve what I described above in vim, please tell me how.
