Teller: The API for your bank account is here (UK)
- sjtgraham 9y agoHey folks, founder here. Was planning to do a Show HN but looks like thibaut_barrere got in first. Happy to answer any questions you have.
- thibaut_barrere 9y agoSorry actually - I think it's been buried because I didn't advertise it as "Show HN". I think you should probably repost it as an actual Show HN (https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html), it's totally worth it & a massive game changer IMO.

- gyre007 9y agoGood to see Teller finally going live! SSL auth and real time payment data streams!
- chirau 9y agoPlease could someone explain to me, in layman's terms where possible, how this is different from Plaid?
- sjtgraham 9y agoHi, the main differences from Plaid are: - This is a live API. AFAIK Plaid does not return live data from the bank as you request, but cached data instead. When you make an API call to Teller, it hits the bank and returns live data to you. It also does this rather quickly. - Teller can make external payments and inter-account transfers. We didn't launch those publicly today, but they exist and will be coming very soon. - Teller exposes more than transactions, you can see details of (and cancel) regular payments from your account, e.g. standing orders and Direct Debits.
- ldn_tech_exec1 9y agoStevie summed it up well I just want to add as a paying user of Plaid and a beta user of Teller, they aren't even in the same league. Teller is a by far better product and developer experience. Plaid's data is also stale, overpriced, poorly documented and often doesn't work as advertised for many banks listed as supported. Their platform has serious billing issues and documentation inconsistencies all of which we have raised with them.
- ldn_tech_exec1 9y agoAnd of course, Plaid is read-only, while Teller is a read/write API
- whockey 9y agoHey all - co-founder of Plaid[0] here. First congrats to Stevie - awesome to see Teller launch - great to see some innovation on the other side of the pond. Looks like a great product! There’s quite a few differences between Plaid and Teller - an obvious one being that Teller is UK only and Plaid is US only! Feel free to email me (william at plaid.com) if you’d like to talk through anything about Plaid. [0] https://plaid.com https://plaid.com
