It's not really the press that does this, it is the human psyche. It is why we have celebrities, in any field. Humans love to idolize others, for various reasons that have been deliberated upon for centuries by those in philosophy and psychology.

- hellofunk 9y agoI think you underestimate how fundamentally human the actions of the media are.
- dando 9y agoThere is nothing fundamental about this. It stems from a lack of understanding, not human nature. The concept of a single genius coming up with everything exist mostly to people who don't know any better, not to people who actually have extensive study of the field.
- hellofunk 9y agoWell there are a lot of musings in the field of psychology about why society creates celebrities from a fundamental need to have living idols.
