>Why can't you get a firearm and just aim for the assailants legs? Because real life doesn't work like the movies. Doing this in a home invasion situation might get you or others killed. That isn't to say you can't warn the burglar(s) should it be safe to do so, but generally speaking if you're pointing a weapon at someone, the only valid reason is because you're prepared to deliver shots to center mass and kill them.
