Pick up a copy of "Working for Yourself: Law and Taxes for Independent Contractors, Freelancers and Consultants." It's an excellent book that provides detail on legal forms (LLC, S-Corp, etc), tax issues, insurance, record keeping, client agreements, etc. I highly recommend the book for someone just getting started as a freelancer.
