plain text, in the form of light-markup, can support all of those things, if you bring it into any number of the systems designed to handle it, many of which are open-source and free of cost.
ms-word can support those things as well, but only when you bring its proprietary format into its proprietary, closed-source app, which is not free of cost. the silo only looks better when you are locked inside it.
it's fine to prefer ms-word. prefer whatever you like. but think clearly and fairly if you start to bring up objective comparative advantage.
- emodendroket 9y agoYes, and by the time you're done supporting everything it's no longer a "light markup" but a complex format that is difficult to implement support for, much like the (specified and open) docx format.
- accordionclown 9y agofortunately, i don't find that to be the case for myself. and i like the simplicity and flexibility and freedom of plain-text as my format of choice. but if you or anybody else prefers something different, i urge you to take that path.
